Every effort must be made to accommodate the forgotten farmers through the provision of a scheme that is rolled out before the end of 2024, Macra urged. 

In the "long-running saga" of the 'forgotten farmers', Macra has said that Budget 2025 presents the "last chance saloon" for this group who missed out as a result of austerity cuts in 2008. 

Support for the forgotten farmers is included in the programme for Government and Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has made commitments that he will deliver for the forgotten farmers.
