In addition to rearing five calves, the students will complete research projects focusing on different aspects of farming, the food chain, and sustainability.

Lucy Kirby, Ciara O Driscoll, Niamh O Sullivan and Ellen O Neill Sacred Heart Secondary School, Clonakilty were revealed as finalists in the tenth year of the Certified Irish Angus schools’ competition at the National Ploughing Championships.

Students from five schools across the country have received Irish Angus-cross calves to rear until 2026.

The student groups from counties Galway, Wexford, Tipperary, Cork, and Offaly were selected from a total of 155 entries after a rigorous three-stage judging process as part of the Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition.
