A 'sigh of relief' as lamb prices start to stabilise
Suppliers are reporting that the processors are paying 20-30c/kg over the quoted base prices to get lambs, with the larger suppliers negotiating for 710-720c/kg.
The lamb producers are breathing a sigh of relief this week and hope that the worst of the factory price cuts is over for the current season.
The quoted prices by the processors have steadied bringing some relief to producers who have taken a heavy cut on their returns from the factories over the past month. The downturn has also dented confidence in a sector under pressure with breeder numbers declining.
