No change to fertiliser allowances during 2024

Mr McConalogue has clarified that the proposed changes will not apply before 2025, which farmers will welcome. 

The interim review of the Nitrates Action Programme included proposals to reduce the chemical nitrogen allowances for grassland on more intensive farms and to introduce a new lower allowance for extensive farmers.

There will be no change to fertiliser allowances during 2024, Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has confirmed.
