Farm-gate beef base prices fall by up to 5c/kg
Reports suggest those with larger numbers on offer are playing 'hard sell' to secure up to 5c/kg more from the factories before parting with their stock.
The threat by beef processors of an imminent price cut is being described by producers as a "ploy" to hold a cap on the returns to producers.
Supplies of finished cattle continue tight and the factories remain under pressure to secure sufficient intake to fulfil their requirements, but they are showing more resistance to paying extra to get more stock through their gates.
