Irish Farmers' Association animal health chairman TJ Maher said that on-farm BVD testing costs are almost €10m per annum.

Farmers are "frustrated" over the Department of Agriculture's "failure" to "remove the cost burden" of the Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) eradication programme. 

€3.75m to support the programme this year has been confirmed by Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue.
