A lot of “serious legislation” that has gone through the European Parliament in the last few years has gone to the environment committee – “and it only had an opinion in the agriculture committee”, Midlands North West MEP Colm Markey said while on a conference panel.
Agriculture needs to have a "proper voice" in Europe, the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association’s annual conference has heard.
After a wave of farmer protests across Ireland and Europe last week protesting environmental regulation, rising costs, and trade deals, the conference heard that the level of regulation is “impacting every sector”.
