We must all treat slurry as an important nutrient and try to use it wisely

Six to 10 weeks or less from now, the stock will be grazing again, fingers crossed.

Happy New Year and all the best for 2024. As we start a new year, the challenges facing livestock producers will continue unabated. We are all hoping for a lot more suitable weather than we had in 2023.

A normal grass-growing season would help us all to grow more grass than last year and hopefully make better quality silage — both would help to reduce production costs significantly on both beef and dairy farms. The prospects for lower fertiliser and feed prices are also very welcome for the coming year and are two of the most significant costs each year.
