Base prices holding at five cents/kg higher than a few weeks ago

The cows are continuing a steady trade with good quality R-grade cows making up to 430 cents/kg and prices ranging from 410 cents/kg.

The slight recovery in the trade last week did inspire some hope, but some of the shine has been wiped off the short-lived optimism.

Finishers selling cattle directly to the factories are experiencing a renewed hardening by the processors on the prices for this week.

The slight increase in the prices conceded by some of the plants to get stock for last week's kill is being maintained for the early days of this week. But that is as good as the trade gets for the immediate days forward.
