Poultry the only meat where production did not meet domestic demand in 2021

Ireland’s self-sufficiency in total meat fell by 19% in 2021 when compared with 2020.

Poultry meat was the only category of meat with net imports, as imports exceeded exports by 19,000kg.

Poultry was the only meat where production did not meet domestic demand in Ireland in 2021, according to new figures from the CSO.

Last year, the total supply of meat in Ireland fell by 3%, or 37,000 tonnes, to 1.4m tonnes.
