Researchers to create vegetarian fish

Converting farmed fish from carnivores to vegetarians is the aim of Irish experts in an €8m EU-funded project.

Ten years ago, the diet for carnivorous farmed fish like trout was 30%-40% fish. However, the availability of wild fish is no longer enough to cater for the fish farming sector, which now supplies 50% of the world’s consumed fish.
