Dairy farmers hope high butter prices will keep milk prices stable

Skimmed milk powder (SMP) was the poorest performer in last Tuesday’s GDT global auction of dairy products, falling 4.5% and inching the overall dairy price index down 0.4%.

The EU’s intervention stockpile of 350,000 tonnes of SMP remains a key determinant of global prices.
