US fires burn 1.6m acres of grazing grassland
Wildfires in March which claimed seven lives across Kansas, Oklahoma, and the Texas panhandle, also killed an estimated 15,000 livestock, as they burned about 1.6m acres of grazing grassland, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
President Donald Trump has helped devastated ranchers by allowing emergency grazing on lands of the US Conservation Reserve Protection programme, welcomed by herdowners who had little feeding available for cattle that survived the wildfires.
