Sprayers advised to register

Some farmers who completed spray courses over the last two years have not yet registered with the Department of Agriculture. Completing the spray course does not automatically register spray operators.
Sprayers advised to register

To register as a professional user, log onto thewww.pcs.agriculture.gov.ie/ website, and go to the SUD section.

Sprayer testing is also a new requirement; only certified equipment can be used to apply professional plant protection products.

Before a testing company examines your sprayer, you are advised to ensure the machine is thoroughly washed, all PTO guards are in place, all pipework is in a fit state (not porous, no cracking)

The pressure clock should be working, filters cleaned, and all nozzles working properly. An induction hopper is not necessary, if it was not factory fitted when the machine was purchased.

The first sprayer test will be valid for five years, followed by tests every three years.
