Cork leads Young Farmers’ Scheme participation

Nearly 1,000 young farmers in Co Cork have applied to the Young Farmers’ Scheme this year, with the next highest applications from Galway (771) and Mayo (734).

The scheme was introduced in the reformed Common Agricultural Policy in 2015, to support young farmers.

Scheme benefits include a payment of about €66 per entitlement held by the young farmer, or 25% of the national average payment per hectare.
