A Waterford-based group that has set itself the goal of becoming Europe’s most sustainable meat company has secured a top national award for excellence in the environment.

Dawn Meats won the large indigenous category at the 13th annual Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility Awards in Dublin.

Resource management, sustainable sourcing, animal welfare, people and community, innovation, and nutrition are the pillars on which it is basing its success.

The group is supporting its mission through achieving various goals, including fossil fuel-free status and sourcing quality-assured product.

Increasing recycling, passively treating waste water, and enhancing on-site bio-diversity are also among the company’s goals.

Dawn Meats has annual revenues of €1bn, employs 3,300 staff in eight countries and exports to more than 40 markets.
