Kieran Coughlan: Squeezing down costs all round can save thousands

With struggling markets across most farm sectors, it’s useful to examine if you’re doing all you can to save on costs.

The National Farm Survey results from 2013 showed the average dairy farmer incurred costs, excluding depreciation, of over €121,094 in that year.

For the average tillage farmer surveyed, costs (excluding depreciation) amounted to €75,617. Beef farmers had a cost base of €37,992.
