Beef market report: Falling beef prices undermine weight gains

Downward pressure on prices at factories has continued to erode returns to beef finishers.

Another 5 cents/kg has been cut from the quoted prices for both steers and heifers by processors this week, and the challenge for finishers of trying to ‘hard sell’ is extremely difficult, heading into the autumn peak supply period.

The base price being quoted for steers has eased to 405 cents/kg this week.
