Sun was needed for crops

Teagasc advisors said last week the cool weather in May had hindered all crop development, but especially maize and beet.

Before the recent weather improvement began, both winter and spring cereals were 7-10 days behind normal crop development.

Most winter wheat was at flag leaf stage (growth stages 37-39), with advanced crops in booting (GS 45).
