Increasing the average EBI of dairy females from its current level of 119 to 210 is one of the targets set for dairy farming by Teagasc, in its submission for the Food Harvest 2025 programme to advance the agri-food industry.

In herbage utilisation, increasing utilisation from the current level of 7.3 tonnes/ha to 10.9 tonnes/ha is the target.

Teagasc experts say the 2025 target for the six-week calving rate is to increase the rate from its current level of 55% to 80%. The somatic cell count target is to reduce the average level in dairy herds from 248,000 to 200,000.
