Choosing the ideal seed mixture

Seed merchants typically have four standard mixes. They include 30% to 40% tetraploids. For example a No1 mix designed for grazing and one-cut silage (1.5 kg clover).
Choosing the ideal seed mixture

The modern trend is to include only three different varieties of ryegrass in a mix. The No2 mix is designed for areas that will normally be cut twice for silage. The No3 mix is designed for intensive early and late grazing and the No4 mix is for wet land.

Most suppliers will make up special mixes on request but this involves expense and is generally not worthwhile. Grazing, and one-cut silage mixes should have at least 1kg clover seed per acre.
