The stable trade for beef at the factories has been maintained this week, with demand for stock aiding further slight upward movement in the prices for producers.

The processors are anxious for cattle, which is working to the benefit of finishers playing a hard sell to get a few cent more before parting with animals for slaughter.

Quoted base prices for the steers are ranging 415-420 cent/kg for the general run, with most of the stock being purchased within this spread, although the upper end is not easily obtained without the processor being under some pressure to get additional stock.
