The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association would not be confident the European Commission would set aside the milk super levy regime in light of the impact of the Russian ban on the import of dairy produce.

Pat McCormack, deputy president, was responding to a recent call on the EU by MEP Máiréad McGuinness to immediately drop the super-levy system because of the market disturbances created by the Russian ban.

Mr McCormack said he fully understood and indeed sympathised with Ms McGuinness’s arguments and saw the obvious benefits for Irish farmers in an over-quota situation.
