A number of important decisions have been reached on commonages, Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney announced yesterday.

The development came as the Hill Farmers Action Group protested outside the Castlebar constituency office of Taoiseach Enda Kenny about the eligibility criteria for GLAS, a new environmental scheme.

Mr Coveney said a lot of progress has been made and a series of information meetings in Donegal, Galway, Kerry and Mayo and Wicklow will help to reassure commonage farmers and provide the clarity they have been seeking.
