Big usage jump after sexed AI breakthrough

Usage of sexed semen will exceed 50,000 straws this year, according to sources in Teagasc.

Sexed semen allows farmers to control the sex of calves born to their cows.

Until 2012, its use in Ireland was low, at about 10,000 straws per year, because of the lower fertility of sexed semen.
