Origin Green ambassador learns about McDonald’s sustainable beef
Origin Green ambassador Philip Corcoran was back in Dublin yesterday for a photo shoot to mark the completion of his McDonald’s placement.
The fast food chain’s own sustainability programme has enhanced its green credentials by informing customers of the local sourcing of food to minimise carbon footprint, and giving the public extensive statistics on its impacts on the planet, people and communities.
Philip was one of 10 ambassadors assigned to a particular market. Each participant promoted Origin Green in their area and communicated the benefits of sourcing from Ireland to local trade, customers and key global accounts.
As part of his internship Philip worked with the McDonald’s supply chain management team, learning about and working on the McDonald’s Sustainability Beef Programme. The company is committed to working directly with farmers and suppliers to source sustainable beef. Bord Bia estimates that one in five burgers eaten in McDonald’s across Europe is made from Irish beef.
The Origin Green drive has helped Department of Agriculture efforts to boost beef exports. Irish beef is supplied to 75 retail chains in Europe.
