Warning over sulphur deficiency

Sulphur is an important plant nutrient, closely associated with nitrogen (N) in grass and crop growth.
Warning over sulphur deficiency

Sulphur (S) deficiency in soils will occur when removals from the soil system are in excess of the amounts added back by either deposition from the air or in fertilisers. Removals include the S lost by leaching and removed in the crop. Two crops of silage will remove about 30kg/ha of S, and it is also estimated that between 20kg and 50kg/ha will be removed by leaching.

Research has shown that the application of sulphur fertiliser can increase the total annual dry matter yield by an average of 15% on sulphur-deficient soils.
