Ideal 52-acre offering in South Cork for tillage or hobby farmer

THE return of the hobby farmer has been presaged by a couple of estate agents this week.

Property is back in favour and doer-uppers with a bit of land are appealing to young buyers looking at a long-term prospect.

And also, there’s better value in a rising market — particularly when the traditional dwelling and three acres is priced at €65,000.

In the case of this holding just north of Macroom, in Co Cork, in the Scrahanard and Cackanode townlands, there are 52 acres on offer, including a derelict farmhouse, outhouses and over three acres of land, in one lot.

The second lot in this private treaty sale is the remainder of the land, 49.8 acres, and this has approximately 30 acres of good ground, but the remainder will need work.

“The land is on offer at €250,000 and it includes some old outbuildings and in the main, it’s a good farm, there’s 30 good acres but about 20 acres have been let go. If there was a machine in there for a week it would have it under control.

“There’s massive road frontage and it’s a few miles north west of the town,” says Killian Lynch.

There’s been considerable interest from local people, says Killian Lynch, who’s offering the entire property at €300,000.

“And going by the interest in it so far it could make in excess of it,” he says.
