As it stands, a passport and a health certificate are required to move an animal. The new procedure will be simpler, more reliable and less expensive.

The French Department of Agriculture has signed an agreement with farmer organisations to allow all in the industry to connect to a centralised information system to verify that an animal can move legally. The agreement covers development of an IT platform to meet the requirements of data security and confidentiality. Different stakeholders within the beef sector will have varying levels of access to regulatory and business data on the animal passport (identification, place of birth, parentage, etc) and to health certificates attesting that the animals originate from a herd free from contagious diseases.
