Turkish peppers, contaminated with 14.4 times the legal amount of a powerful organophosphate-type pesticide have been detected by the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

Three different batches of the peppers which greatly exceeded the permitted residue limit (MRL) for the Malathion pesticide were destroyed.

Two batches had double the MRL permitted by the EU, at 0.04 and 0.038mgs per kilo respectively, compared to the 0.02mgs limit, and the third had 0.228mgs of Malathion per kilo were found, 14.4 times the legal amount, in one of the worst RASFF contamination cases found recently.
