Farmers have called for processors who damage the reputation of the Irish food sector through serious breaches in regulations or lapses in standards to lose their operating licences.

It is one of several new measures which IFA is insisting on to reassure consumers, and enhance the high reputation of Irish beef products internationally.

IFA president John Bryan told its executive council meeting that action must be taken to ensure that the sector is not undermined.
