Trail scheme participants in wage cut

Wages are being cut 14% for the more than 1,800 landowners who maintain trails through their property for walkers.

The Walks Scheme is currently in place on 40 trails nationally, with 1,811 landholder participants. They receive payments for development, enhancement, and maintenance of the sections of trail that traverse their lands.

In 2012, payments to these landowners totalled €1.91m.
