2012 wash-out wasn't shared out equally

Farming fortunes varied wildly in 2012 — depending on how much rain fell.

Athenry, Co Galway, had its driest year since 2007.

But timing was as important as quantity, and Lough Glencar, Co Leitrim got four inches of thunderstorm rain in one day — June 8, its wettest day since 1993. And the Met Eireann weather station at Malin Head got 2.4 inches of rain on June 22, its wettest day since 1987.
