Athenry, Co Galway, had its driest year since 2007.

But timing was as important as quantity, and Lough Glencar, Co Leitrim got four inches of thunderstorm rain in one day — June 8, its wettest day since 1993. And the Met Eireann weather station at Malin Head got 2.4 inches of rain on June 22, its wettest day since 1987.
