EU’s top sugar beet processors quids in

The sugar reforms of 2006 which led to the scrapping of the Irish industry have left the EU’s top sugar beet processors laughing all the way to the bank.

With operating margins at close to 20%, AB Sugar in the UK has reported a 62% rise to operating profits of €633 million in 2011.

Sudzucker and Nordzucker in Germany have reported huge profits increases.
