The farmer spends his day and the majority of his thinking time sorting out practical difficulties which, if ignored, will result in a major disaster in terms of getting crops or livestock to market.

(I use ‘he’ from habit, not accuracy — there are many thousands of women farmers who give their male counterparts a real run for their money).

They haven’t much time to be concerned with markets and prices, statements and policies, legislation and incentives.
