Woodland funding back on track

A scheme of national funding has been re-opened for local authorities and other groups to install suitable recreational facilities such as paths, signage and educational facilities in woodlands.

Completed Neighbourwood Scheme application forms must be received by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine on or before Monday, August 20.

They will be assessed for criteria such as value for money; timeframe for completion, and potential for recreational use. Ideally, proposed sites should be located in or near a centre of population, with good linkage to other recreational and natural amenities.

Minister of State Shane McEntee said projects are typically developed by a partnership of a local authority and community and recreational groups to provide a woodland amenity that people in the area can visit and enjoy.
