Advisers said that grass supply had declined and grazing conditions had deteriorated on dairy farms over the last week.

With most cows calved, demand for grass was outstripping growth rate on many farms, and advisers said grass shortages could not have come at a worse time, because they coincided with the start of the breeding season.
