Compulsory meal feeding of calves vital for scheme

Farmers participating in the Suckler Welfare Scheme are well aware of the measures they must take on their farm to be eligible for payment.

Compulsory meal feeding of calves vital for scheme

One of these measures is the compulsory meal feeding of calves for four weeks before weaning, and two weeks after.

For this period a minimum of 1kg per calf per day must be fed, and weaning must be done gradually within the group of calves. Weaned calves cannot be sold until two weeks after weaning.
