New farm gains tax regime for disposals

There have been more changes in the past few months in the way capital gains tax applies when selling or transferring a farm — or part of a farm.

The new rules are dressed up as an incentive for farmers to transfer their farms to the next generation earlier.

But I would suggest that rather than there being an incentive to transfer earlier, there is a penalty for transferring late.
