Realising benefits of forestry thinnings

Research conducted by Teagasc indicates that if only 50% of private forest owners thin their plantations the output from farm forestry first thinnings would exceed 200,000 cubic metres each year.

Most forest owners realise the benefits of timely thinning. For some there can be apprehension.

Feedback from forest owner groups indicates that forest owners find it difficult to make contact with those buying timbers locally, and to understand which company provides what service.
