Campaign to encourage partnerships launches shortly

Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney’s moves to encourage partnership arrangements between neighbouring farmers will be the subject of a Teagasc promotional campaign in the near future.

Campaign to encourage partnerships launches shortly

Teagasc director Professor Gerry Boyle said the minister has indicated that he wishes to support a wide variety of relationships, including highly formalised relationships such as partnerships, shared farming, contract rearing of heifers or fodder production, and machinery sharing. “We have agreed to implement a national programme with three elements.”

A promotional campaign will be followed by intensive advisory support in six regional areas. “We will also establish a research observatory so farmers interested in getting involved in some type of collaborative farming relationship can access a web base and see the experience of others, both in Ireland and elsewhere,” said Professor Gerry Boyle. Minister Coveney has also indicated he will encourage clusters of farmers to buy in bulk, share pasture, and rely on one another for slurry and waste management.
