With at least 80,000 cattle farmers interested, the €5m of annual State funding for the Beef Technology Adoption Programme may not stretch very far.

There’s enough to pay up to 5,000 beef and suckler farmers €1,000 per year. Every 5,000 extra who get involved would halve the payout.

With a Mar 7 closing date for applications, it’s no wonder IFA president John Bryan said farmers need to complete application forms and get back to the local Teagasc or agri-consultant facilitator “without delay” .
