Data from the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation shows that the economic breeding index (EBI) of registered female animals has increased rapidly since 2004, from 56 to 99 in 2011.

It has been proved beyond all doubt that cows bred from high-EBI bulls, which are well managed and fed, deliver maximum profits.

Genetics are moving faster than management. Less than 40% of replacements have been coming from AI sires until recent years, but there has been a big increase in the past few seasons. The target of 40 AI bred heifers per 100 cows is being achieved by many farmers.
