Farmers play the waiting game on cross-breeding

ONLY about 5% of our dairy herds are crossed, despite research showing huge advantages for cross-breeding and the resultant hybrid vigour.

But the cross-breeding situation has changed very little over the past five years. The Jersey seems to be the cross of choice at present.

It is a big step, particularly for farmers that have built up good quality Holstein-Friesian herds over the years.
