New household charge will replace central government funding

THE Household Charge Bill, which provides for a €100 household charge, was passed by the Oireachtas last week.

New household charge will replace central government funding

The Bill was presented under the guise that the charge would fund vital local services, such as fire and emergency services, libraries, street cleaning, lighting, planting, etc.

These services are currently funded from central Government. There will be no additional local “vital services” as a result of the household charge.
