SLIPPAGE in the supply of cattle to the factories has sharpened competition for cattle in recent days, and cancelled out any recent easing in prices being paid.

Factory agents have come under pressure to secure enough cattle to meet strong market demand for beef, and farmers are taking advantage by negotiating for higher prices.

In general, the prices quoted for cattle this week are increased by about 5 cent/kg (2p/lb), as processors find it harder to fill their requirements.
