Pig price at 91% of the EU average

THE Irish pig price for the week ending November 20 fell to 91% of the EU average (€1.46/kg versus €1.61/kg).

According to IFA, export plants here offer flat rate prices of mostly 150 to 153 cent/kg this week, with welfare bonuses at 2-6cent/kg. Pork slaughterers offer 150 to 156 cent/kg, sow prices are at 80 to 100c/kg deadweight.

EU pig prices were mostly stable this week. EU export statistics to September show a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2010. Russia continues to be the biggest market, but there has been a huge increase in volumes to Asian countries. Imports to the EU have fallen.
