COTTON farmers have been particularly badly affected in India’s agrarian crisis, particularly those who have switched from growing other crops, with hopes of improving their incomes.

While some 80 countries around the world produce cotton, China, the US and India together produce over half the crop.

The US cotton industry accounts for more than $25 billion in products and services annually, and generates over 400,000 jobs in industry sectors, from farms to textile mills.
