Beef price rise and record mart trade continue

Control of the cattle market has now swung into the hands of farmers with cattle to sell, with processors conceding higher prices to get sufficient stock to supply markets.

The base prices being quoted by the factories for steers bought “on the grid” this week range from 350 to 353 cents/kg (125p-126p/lb) with some processors willing to offer up to 356 cents/kg (127p/lb) for good quality animals. Farmers are negotiating deals worth up to 6-8 cents/kg (2p-3p/lb) above quotes.
