Only 200 applied for dairy equipment grants up to last weekend
The first tranche of the scheme closed last Tuesday.
It is believed that if applications received total less than 500, applicants will get full grants. The scheme is set to continue until December 31, 2013, with set amounts of the total funding of €45 million being allocated in a series of three-month tranches determined by the Minister for Agriculture. The scheme is designed to encourage, in particular, new entrants and young farmers into milk production through grant aid of up to 40% of the considerable capital costs for up-to-date milking technology.
